Storms

It's stormy here, in more ways than one, but we must remember that storms are not catastrophes meant to decimate us. They nourish the earth with boisterous heat and blinding light, and send us indoors to contemplate the nature of ourselves.

James said...: You know, I quite like the word decimate. Although, common usage has somewhat altered its original meaning. It was originally a Latin word that meant "to destroy one tenth," coming from a common military practice of destroying one tenth of the opposition's forces 1. in order to weaken the opposing army and 2. to psychologically and emotionally damage the remaining nine tenths. It was also quite effective, which is probably the reason we have the word today at all.

As to the whole of the post, storms are quite wondrous things. I find that thunder seems to be the cries of Mother Earth in labor, giving birth to new life, awakening and rejuvenating herself and her children.

Storms

It's stormy here, in more ways than one, but we must remember that storms are not catastrophes meant to decimate us. They nourish the earth with boisterous heat and blinding light, and send us indoors to contemplate the nature of ourselves.
