You know, I quite like the word decimate. Although, common usage has somewhat altered its original meaning. It was originally a Latin word that meant "to destroy one tenth," coming from a common military practice of destroying one tenth of the opposition's forces 1. in order to weaken the opposing army and 2. to psychologically and emotionally damage the remaining nine tenths. It was also quite effective, which is probably the reason we have the word today at all.
As to the whole of the post, storms are quite wondrous things. I find that thunder seems to be the cries of Mother Earth in labor, giving birth to new life, awakening and rejuvenating herself and her children.

Growing up, thunder was "the angels bowling", and rain was a way to rinse everything clean. I sometimes forget that in adulthood. Popping by from SITs!

Over from SITS. Just read your second to last post and really enjoyed it. Learning to debate is a difficult thing. You don't always have to be right just articulate it convincingly.

Well, I've never thought of a storm as "catastrophes meant to decimate us." I've always thought of them as a miraculous life source. And I love the many sounds and sometimes light shows.
We need not run and hide from it either, but embrace it.
Congratulations on your day in the SITS sun. I hope your day today is most beautiful. - July 22, 2009 at 7:46 AM

Ginger... I stopped by from SITS. Your writing is truly inspiring and very thought provoking. I MUST forward this to my niece in NY who just graduated with a BA in journalism and is now going to get her masters. I do believe I will follow your blog and post a link from mine (though mine is nothing short of a hobby). Again, fantastic writings.

It's a rainy day here. I love rain and storms. I get miffed at the weather forecasters who complain about everything. First, there's not enough rain, then there's too much. I wish they'd just be quiet. I have a post "Freshness after the Storm" in reference to personalities. Congrats on your day in the spotlight! Enjoy!
